It really does leave a bitter taste in the mouth when you wake up on a rainy Monday, pick up the paper, and see The Sun proudly proclaim, with a more than generous dash of smugness, that Super Joey Cole will be out "Until Christmas". The paper then goes on to state how bad this is likely to be for Chelsea and England. Other papers have suggested that our talismanic Cole is already doubting his season. What a crushing blow to Chelsea's hopes of retaining the title for an amazing third time on the trot.
Jose has said that it looks like it could be ligament damage, and that he "seems really injured" but lets look at the facts. Joe went down after taking a knee to the side of his knee, and had treatment. He walked it off for a bit, and then decided not to continue. Ok so he's got a knee injury. If its a blow to the knee, then surely you wait until the swelling has gone down before you have a serious look at whether its ligament damage. If you suspect it is ligament damage, do you try and walk it off? No. Joe Cole is obviously injured, but triumphant headlines predicting a premature end to Joe Cole's season seem equally premature.
Even if it is major ligament damage, assuming it isn`t cruciate (and he would not be walking anywhere at all if it were), then he could be back in action in six weeks, so early October looks likely for a return. Hardly the end of his, or our, season now is it?
So if he is away until then, and we hope he isn`t, but if he is, then what games will he miss? We've got the Charity thing in Cardiff against the Mickeys, and them again at home in the League Sunday 17th September. We play various fixtures against Villa, Pompey, Sheffield Utd, Boro, Blackburn, and Man City in the league, and also have the first couple of our group games in the Champions League. Not ideal, but at least we don`t have to play Man United and Arsenal. With Duffer gone, we now have three recognised wingers in Robben, Sweep, and Kalou. Discounting Kalou as he is new, an unknown quantity, and cannot really be depended on yet, it certainly seems like the pressure is on Robben to recreate his World Cup form, and for Sweep to take his long-awaited chance and do the business in a Chelsea shirt. The other option is to play an orthodox 4-4-2 and play no natural wingers, but a compact midfield, with width provided by Ferreira/Geremi and Bridge as wingbacks. This would allow any four of Makelele, Essien, Lampard, Ballack, Diarra, and Robben as central midfielders. Food for though certainly, more so when you realise that such a dominating force through the middle would be providing ammunition for Drogba and Shevchenko.
Point is, hardly end of the world is it?

glaub auch das chelsea das verkraften wird, wenn nicht sind sie kein weltklasse team.denn eine der besten mannschaften der welt kann und darf auch nicht am ausfall eines einzigen spielers zerfallen.
